Who’s responsible

Actually Useful, a one-person consultancy based in the United Kingdom, runs this website (actuallyuseful.uk) and decides how the information you send is used. In data-protection terms, that makes me the “data controller”. You can reach me about anything on this page through the enquiry form or by email at tom@actuallyuseful.uk.

What I collect, and why

When you fill in the enquiry form, you send me your name, your firm or company, your email address and your message. I use these for one thing only: to read your enquiry and reply to it. That’s the lawful basis — my legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch, and taking the first steps towards possibly working together.

I don’t buy, sell, rent or build a marketing list from your details, and I won’t add you to anything. The note under the form — “I’ll only use your details to reply. No list, no spam.” — is the whole policy in one line.

What I don’t collect

No cookies. No analytics. No advertising or tracking pixels. The site doesn’t try to follow you around, and there’s no cookie banner because there’s nothing to consent to. Like any website, the company that hosts it processes basic technical information (such as your IP address) to deliver pages and keep the site secure — but I don’t use that to identify you.

Who else is involved

Two service providers help run the site. I’ve kept it to as few as possible, and I don’t share your details with anyone beyond them.

• Formspree receives the enquiry form and forwards it to me by email. It’s based in the United States, so submitting the form involves a transfer of your details outside the UK, handled under their standard safeguards.
• Cloudflare hosts and delivers the website, and processes the technical information mentioned above to serve pages and protect against abuse.

How long I keep it

I keep our correspondence for as long as it’s useful — while we’re in touch, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back. If nothing comes of an enquiry, I delete it. You can ask me to delete it sooner at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law you can ask me to show you the information I hold about you, correct it if it’s wrong, delete it, or stop using it. Just send the request through the enquiry form or email tom@actuallyuseful.uk, and I’ll sort it out — there’s no charge, and no hoops.

If you’re ever unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, you have the right to complain to the UK’s regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office, at ico.org.uk. I’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Changes

If this policy changes, I’ll update the date at the top. Given how little the site does, I don’t expect it to change often.
